United For Growth Bwaise

Introduction
In Bwaise 1, Kampala’s busiest neighborhood, climate change impacts—flooding, waste overload, and shrinking green spaces—hit youth hardest. At United for Growth Bwaise, we harness the energy and creativity of local young people to launch tangible climate resilience projects. Through hands-on training, community clean-ups, and urban gardening, Bwaise youth become agents of change, building a cleaner, greener tomorrow.

Understanding Climate Challenges in Bwaise 1
Bwaise sits on a wetland; seasonal floods contaminate water and block drainage.
Local waste dumps breed mosquitoes and illness.
Rising temperatures strain already fragile infrastructure and public health.
Youth-Led Urban Gardening and Waste Management
We train 50+ youth to convert flood-prone plots into vegetable gardens.
Composting workshops teach waste-to-soil techniques for organic farming.
Monthly “Clean & Green” drives mobilize schools and families in Bwaise 1.
Training and Skill Development Workshops
Interactive sessions cover:

  • Waste segregation and recycling methods
  • Seed propagation, irrigation, and soil health
  • Renewable energy basics (solar lantern assembly)
Measurable Impact in Local Climate Resilience
Over 200 square meters of community gardens established.
1,000+ kilograms of organic waste composted into fertile soil.
Reduced local flood risk through improved drainage and green cover.
